Baltimore meeting - Global Alliance Review Group

Hi folks and many thanks for your continued engagement as part of the Transition and Review group for the "Global Alliance ...".  Everyone really appreciates your skilled participation and effort to help bring to fruition the plans developed in the New York meeting. Thanks also if you have confirmed your participation for the meeting of this group on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th November in Baltimore, kindly hosted by JHU CCP. This note has an initial outline of the draft agenda for the meeting and some administrative details.

1. Venue: The venue for the meeting is Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs Bloomberg School of Public Health 111 Market Place, Suite 310; Draper Conference Room Baltimore, MD 21202 –
Phone: 410-659-6300 (Main).

2. Contact: The contact person if you have any adminstrative questions or issues is Norma Chavez - phone: 410-223-1669 (D) and email nchavez1@jhu.edu - thanks Norma - really appreciated.

3. Logistics: Attached (when you click "Please review and comment here" above and are logged in) is the JHU CCP logistics information sheet including meeting room, directions, hotels, parking, etc (with thanks to Norma).

4. Meeting times: As some of you will be travelling from longish distances and others from DC and NY we will commence at 10am on Wednesday 29th, 2017 in the Draper Conference room. The meeting times for each day will be:

- Wednesday 29th November, 2017 - 10am to 5pm

- Thursday, 30th September, 2017 - 9am to 4pm

5. Participation: We have gone backwards and forwards - and side-to-side - related to participation in this event. At one stage as you may have seen in recent communications we were considering engaging a broader group by including others from the New York meeting. In the end we have reached the conclusion that we will involve only the organisations that comprise the Review group agreed at the New York meeting as this meeting is part of the process to which they volunteered and were endorsed by others in that NY event hosted by UNICEF. So, it will be UNICEF, Soul City Insitute for Social Justice, USAID, JHU CCP, The CORE Group, Save the Children, BBC Media Action, IAMCR, the International Social Marketing Association and The Communication Initiative around the table in Baltimore. As we develop the full agenda we are considering bringing some additional organisations into the meeting for a couple of hours as a test bed for the ideas being developed, but nothing decided yet.

6. Agenda:The formal agenda is being developed. The broad outline follows.

The foundation stones for this meeting will be the decisions made by the name, criteria and priorities groups. In this meeting we will build from that base.

The essence of the agenda will be for the Review Group meeting in Baltimore to make decisions on the following items:

a. The detailed plan of action for the initial 12 months of the Alliance across teh 3 main priorities agreed.

b. The initial organisations that will sit at the Alliance table

c. How best to present the Alliance to the broader development community.

d. The initial, overall organisational structure for the Alliance - meeting pattern, secretariat support, funding strategy, etc.

A more formal agenda will be devloped early next week and circulated along with the relevant background and issue papers

8. Sub-Group work completion: The Priorities sub-group work is complete with agreement on the 3 main priorities for the initial 12 months. But there are still outstanding issues to be resolved by the Name and Criteria groups. If you are on the Name or Criteria group please look for separate notes today re proposed gatherings to resolve those outstanding items.

Happy to answer any questions - with many thanks - Warren and on behalf of Rafael
